Quinta Daeg lies is the heart of a rural valley which borders to the north-west on the National Forest (Mata National) of Barão de São João. We are surrounded by an unspoiled countryside, with cork oak groves, fields and vegetable plots lined with vines. Many fruit trees can be found on and near our farm, such as olive trees, almond trees, fig trees and citrus trees.
This type of landscape provides for a suitable habitat for wild life including boars and foxes. We also have a lovely selection of birds nesting on Quinta Daeg, for example nightingales, hoopoes, woodpeckers and the cuckoo. Though we seldom get to see any of them, we do find footprints and other proof of their existence.
Many beautiful wild plants grow on our farm, such as orchids Ophrys vernixia, Ophrys lutea, Serapias cordigera, Serapias parviflora, Orchis morio, Anacamptis pyramidalis, Orchis italica.
Our field has many wild flowers and to name only a few; Gladiolus italicus, Iris xiphiun, Orobanche sp. Lupinus luteus, Muscardi comosum, and Silene colorata.
Our holiday cottage is in the middle of all this beautiful landscape and at night our skies are not polluted with light which makes star-gazing exceptionally good. It is not unusual to be able to see the Milky Way.
